1Voice Foundation Supports Local Families Impacted by Childhood Cancer

The 5th Annual Trunk Slammers Invitational Presented by DeCurtis Corporation is April 13th, 2019 at the River Hills Country Club and we are humbled to be the title sponsor for the second year in a row. There are tons of fun things planned at the tournament, but we also wanted to take a moment to talk about WHY we are passionate about the cause this event supports.

All proceeds benefit 1Voice Foundation, an organization dedicated to making a direct impact on childhood cancer in our community. This foundation not only fights to get a cure funded with their legislative efforts, but they also help the child that received the diagnosis and their family in many different ways.

Support Programs

1Voice has a long list of resources they fund and provide to the local families that are experiencing a cancer diagnosis.  1Voice’s family support programs provide educational, psychosocial, and financial resources. There are no fees or expenses for the families. 1Voice’s philosophy is “the family is diagnosed with cancer, not just the child.” Therefore, all their programs are designed with the needs of the entire family in mind. Here are just a few groups that are affiliated with 1Voice:

Quantum Leap Farm, a certified equine therapy program, which provides therapy not only for the child with cancer but their siblings as well. Studies show that people working with horses experience decreased blood pressure, lower stress levels, and reduced feelings of tension, anxiety, and anger.

Pediatric Union Grey Support groups, affectionately called P.U.G.S. This group is nationally recognized by the American Brain Tumor Association as a resource and support group for families affected by pediatric brain tumors. The group is designed to individually meet the needs of families dealing with pediatric brain tumors and provide them with resources, research updates, and peer support from other families who share their journey.

For families who have lost their child to this terrible disease, 1Voice also provides support to the loved ones in their time of grief. The 1Voice Foundation is a member of the National Alliance for Grieving Children, providing support services to the families that have lost a child due to cancer.

Legislation

Also, 1Voice fights for legislation to provide funding to find a cure for pediatric cancer. The 1Voice Foundation co-founded the Florida Coalition for Childhood Cancer, an organization that unites all agencies who support childhood cancer in the state of Florida and is part of the National Coalition for Childhood Cancer and The Alliance for Childhood Cancer, a national initiative for collaboration. Families travel to Capitol Hill to testify in front of the Senate and Congress requesting additional funding for pediatric cancer research.

Education

The 1Voice Foundations has also launched an initiative to open an academy which will be a school for kids with cancer. This school will be the first in the United States to offer continued education to children dealing with cancer treatment and the various side effects. The academy will provide an environment safe for the children and return some normalcy to their lives regarding actives and education.

The foundation also offers tutoring programs for pediatric cancer patients and siblings. Dinner is provided, and like all the services provided by 1Voice, there is no charge to the families.

The 1Voice Foundation is made up of a caring group of volunteers that are doing everything they can to help families affected by a pediatric cancer diagnosis. Decurtis Corporation is proud to be the title  sponsor to help raise awareness.

This is not your run of the mill golf tournament. This is a traditional four-person scramble, but there is lots of fun planned for the course. Some of the fun will include but is not limited to a long drive contest, closest to the pin; a trick shot artist, a pneumatic golf gun hole, drink stations every four holes, amazing raffle packages, and our soon-to-be-famous costume contest! A delicious lunch and an awards reception with dinner immediately following the fun on the course. Raffle prizes and more contests will be announced closer to the tournament. We are having a new contest that will take place during this tournament. Details on this content will be released closer to the tournament date.
